Swansea County Council has asked the Local Democracy and Boundary Commission for Wales (the Commission) to conduct a review of the community arrangements of the County of Swansea.
The Commission may recommend “such community boundary changes as it considers appropriate”. In this context, a “community boundary change” may mean a change to the boundary of an existing community, the abolition of an existing community and/or the creation of a new
community.
In summary the Commission’s proposals would see Ilston Community Council ICC) being merged with Pennard Community Council and the representation of Ilston reducing to 2 councillors. This change would take effect in 2027. All other Gower Community Council’s are impacted by the proposals. The draft report and the associated terms of reference can be viewed here website.
Ilston Community Council is not alone among Gower Community Councils in strongly opposing the proposals. The ICC response is attached.
